John Halloran Delivers Lecture in Paris Addressing Challenges for Lawyers in a Changing Economic Universe
On June 24, 2013, John Halloran delivered a lecture at the law school of the Université Paris Ouest addressing the topic of "Challenges for Lawyers in a Changing Economic Universe." Mr. Halloran addressed changes in our legal environment in terms of substantive law and the overall marketplace, and framed his presentation upon themes articulated by Circuit Judge Richard A. Posner in his influential article "The Material Basis of Jurisprudence" (69 Ind. L.J. 1 (1993)). In his remarks, Mr. Halloran pointed to opportunities borne of crisis, and emphasized the need to look forward with professionalism and optimism. He concluded that whatever recessionary headwinds exist, we must honor the core values of our profession on both sides of the Atlantic, including our responsibilities as officers of the court.
