Dutch Court Rules on Tort Liability of Shell Nigeria for Oil Spills in Nigeria.

On January 30, 2013, the district court of The Hague, The Netherlands held that Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Ltd. (Shell Nigeria), pursuant to applicable Nigerian law, had violated a duty of care and was liable for the tort of negligence for failure to prevent sabotage by third persons to the company's submerged pipelines situated near the Nigerian village of Ikot Ada Udo.
